Some thoughts on Western Civilization

Wester Civilization has allowed many things, but one way that it is special is that it allows individuals to be individuals without the pressures of social conformity of many other systems. This is what allowed Western civilization to develop the world around us the way that it is.

With the rise of technology and social media, the Western world has largely lost this quality. We’ve lost it for several reasons, but the reasons themselves are not so important as the consequences of losing being individuals free of social pressure. The greatest leap of human ingenuity has largely been the result of individuals thinking in non-conforming ways about a particular issue that mattered to them. We are at risk of losing this.

Often I go on about the dangers of societies like the USSR and the conformity of its citizens to allow such things to occur, and the same force happened on the other side of the political spectrum in Nazi Germany, but that force is now present in the west… and it is dangerous for both freedom and the growth of humanity as a whole.
